Eye prosthesis:

Gernerally you have the alternatives glass or plastic. Although plastic is advertised as anew material, this material has already been used for eye prosthesis ( in Germany as well) for a long time. Despite the fact that plastic doesn´t break as easily, there are many arguments for glass. This material has, compared to plastic, superior chemical and physical features:

biocompatible (anti-allergic)
hydrophile surface ( good to moisten)
smooth, fire polished surface
high degree of hardness of the surface
high brilliance
good chemical resistance and
as a hollow body low weight

Apart from this it is possible to make a good looking, multilayerd iris structure, which looks very natural.
